Funakoshi Gichin

"The ultimate aim of Karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants."

"When you look at life think in terms of karate. But remember that karate is not only karate -- it is life"

"Just as it is the clear mirror that reflects without distortion, or the quiet valley that echoes a sound, so must one who would study Karate-Do purge himself of selfish and evil thoughts, for only with a clear mind and conscience can he understand that which he receives."

Funakoshi Gichin (1868-1957)

Student of the year 2009/2010

Recently the Sen-Shin-Kai karate club Clonmel presented it's student of the year award for the period 2009/2010. This is the first year of the award so it was an extra special occasion for everyone. The award aims to recognise not just an individuals commitment to their training but also the persons character. At then end of the selection process we were unable to separate the final two outstanding candidates, so the decision was made to present the award to both students. The winners of the 2009/2010 Sen-Shin-Kai student of the year are Shane Phillips and Aisling Fiuza. Shane and Aisling are incredibly dedicated to their training and both became black belts in November 2009. They are also fantastic characters who are superb role models for the younger members to look up to. We would like to take this chance to congratulate Shane and Aisling and to also thank them sincerely for all their help at the club. Funakoshi Gichin, the founder of Shotokan Karate once stated "The ultimate aim of Karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants.". Shane and Aisling are true living examples of this statement. We would also like to take the opportunity to thank all our members for their continued support and also St. Peter & Paul's National School for the use of their superb facilities, without them none of this would be possible.
